Audio recording examination considers file properties, the acoustic environment and signs of recording conditions. Technical examination is distinguished from interpretation of speech and determination of its legal significance.
Subject of examination
- The audio file and information about its provenance
- The background environment, noise and technical alterations
- The device or available information about the recording channel
Sample questions for the expert
- What technical properties does the submitted file have?
- What changes in the acoustic environment and recording can be detected?
- Are the signs sufficient for a conclusion about conditions or transformations?
- How do copying, compression and processing affect the examination?
The final questions are formulated according to the objects and circumstances of the particular task.
What to prepare
- The file in its earliest available form
- Information about the recording device and application
- The history of copying, export and processing
- The storage medium, accompanying documents and questions
How the examination is conducted
Available technical parameters and audio signal characteristics are analysed. Provenance and transformation history are taken into account when interpreting each sign.
Scope and limitations
Failure to detect signs of processing does not prove that the recording is entirely unchanged. Background sound does not always allow a specific location or device to be established.
What the deliverable records
The result sets out the properties detected, substantiated conclusions about conditions and limitations relating to the submitted copy.
Cost and terms
from RUB 90 000. The exact cost depends on the recording's duration, material quality, number of segments and questions, the need for a report review and urgency.
